Canon C300/XF100/XF105/XF300/XF305 MXF FILES to FCP importing Tips
Source From: Brorsoft
Canon XF Camcorders (including XF100/XF105/XF300/XF305) and EOS C300 are more and more popular among us. But as we know, they recorded video file is MXF format, a not good editable format for Final Cut Pro 6/7 and FCP X. We will meet some troubles when we import Canon XF100/XF105/XF300/XF305 and even the latest C300 MXF redordings to FCP. The reason is the MXF format is not the FCP compatible video format. In order to make Canon XF Camcorder MXF files editable in FCP, Canon launches some related XF plug-ins, via which you can transfer your MXF recordings to your Mac editing software. But as far as we know, Canon XF utility was not used to capture videos from CF cards on location. That is to say, XF utility is not effective for importing Canon MXF clips from CF cards.
Besides, due to the limitation of the XF utility, even though you have installed the XF utility, you still get the error message: "(folder name)" contains unsupported media or has an invalid directory structure. Please choose a folder whose directory structure matches supported media.". The problem may lie in that the version of your Final Cut Pro or your Mac OS has not been up to its requirement. And it will cost you more money to update of FCP and OS. What is the best and most convenient way to get Canon MXF clips from CF cards to FCP? The answer is a MXF to FCP converter, which is good at MXF to Apple ProRes conversion.
Here recommended the top MXF to FCP Converter. It is professional and great in converting MXF files to FCP with original quality at much faster speed, compared to XF plug-in or other converters. In addtion, it is able to join several clips into one, deinterlace 1080i files, add text/image/video to imported files, customize video and audio parameters as you need, replace audio tracks, etc. Thus, the Mac MXF Converter is best choice for you.
Guide: How to import Canon MXF clips to Final Cut Pro without XF utility on Mac OS X.
Step 1: Free download MXF Converter for Mac and load Canon MXF footages from CF cards to it.
Tips:
1. If you want to merge MXF files, just need to check the “Merge into one” box.
2. You shouldn’t move the single MXF video out of the whole MXF whole structure folder, or the MXF video would loss some metadata, such as sound.
Step 2: Select the suitable output format from five options, including ProRes 422, ProRes 422 (HQ), ProRes 422 (LT), ProRes 422 (Proxy) and ProRes 4444, according to your personal needs.
Tips:
1. You’d better set the video frame rate as 30fps, video size as 1920*1080 to keep the best quality for editing in Final Cut Pro. You can change the video size from 1920*1080 to 1440*1080 or 1280*720 to relatively reduce the size of the converted files.
2. If you attach great importance to the quality of the converted MOV files, please select ProRes 422 or ProRes 422 (HQ). If you don't need the HD mov files but the smaller size, you can choose ProRes 422 (LT) and ProRes 422 (Proxy).
Step 3: Customize video and audio's parameters accordins to your needs on Profile Setting, which you can get by clicking Settings on the main interface. The step can be skipped if you needn't adjust the settings.
Step 4: Click the button for "Convert" and you will start converting Canon MXF clips to ProRes for FCP immediately.
When the MXF to ProRes conversion is completed, you can load the converted MOV files to FCP without any problem. Besides, the powerful and versatile MXF Converter has the capability of making MXF recordings importable and editable in iMovie, FCE, Adobe Premiere, Avid Media Composer, etc.
