How to Import/edit Canon EOS 7D movie in Final Cut Pro with FCP
Summary: Follow this article to know more about best codec Canon EOS 7D to ProRes for FCP editing
“Just purchased a Canon EOS 7D DSLR and would like to ingest, cut and output via Final Cut Pro. Camera footage will originate @ 1080 24p, and 720 60p. For the high speed 60p I have used Cinematools to preview the footage - I'm not sure if this is the way to go for the best results - will the 60p require a different workflow. May I injest directly from the card or mov file? What codec should I use for editing in FCP?”
Like the 5D Mark II the 7D shoots H.264 codec. This must be converted to an editing codec like ProRes (1920 x 1080 so same pixel aspect), before ingesting into FCP. Do not just drop the .mov files into FCP as it will play badly and need rendering.
Use compressor to do the batch conversion. You might also want to use Compressor to slo mo the 60fps down to 24 using frame controls. I recommend you to use Pavtube HD Video Converter for Mac, it will help you convert Canon 7D to Apple ProRes 422 for Final Cut Pro editing. Final Cut Pro X supported best video format is Apple ProRes 422 Codec MOV format, you can edit video with this format in Final Cut Pro X smoothly without rendering, below is a brief guide for you.
1.Download and install Pavtube HD Video Converter for Mac. It can convert videos between rich video formats, such as convert Canon 7D MOV to ProRes 422 for FCP X.
2.Import the Canon 7D recorded MOV video to this Mac HD Video Converter for 7D.

5.Edit function is useful and convenient for you to use. You can trim, crop, adjust effects or add watermark to the video.
6.Click convert button to start trancoding Canon 7D MOV to Final Cut Pro Prores codec on Mac.
